Poughkeepsie … Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino and Veterans Services Director Adam Roche invite residents to attend Dutchess County’s Memorial Day ceremony at the Dutchess County War Memorial on Monday, May 27th, at 11 a.m. The Dutchess County War Memorial is located at John K. Rinaldi Memorial Park at the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Main Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
The annual event gathers residents, veterans and their families to honor the courageous service members who gave their lives in defense of our nation. The remembrance will include a wreath-laying ceremony, presentation of colors by the Poughkeepsie High School JROTC and remarks from Madison Fletcher, VFW District 2 Commander.
County Executive Serino said, “For generations, brave Dutchess County residents have given their lives, in service to our country, to keep us free. We will never forget these ultimate sacrifices, nor the brave men and women who made them. Dutchess County will always honor our heroes, and our county’s annual Memorial Day ceremony brings dignity and respect to their memory. I encourage all residents to observe this most solemn holiday, and I urge you to join us in commemorating those who paid for our liberty with their lives.”
Memorial Day is a national holiday honoring the men and women who lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. They are remembered and honored for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
County Executive Serino and Director Roche encourage Dutchess County residents to celebrate local veterans by participating in one or more of the numerous Memorial Day events planned across the county. Dutchess County Veterans Services reached out to local municipalities and community organizations and has compiled a listing of events taking place on or around Memorial Day.
